"A Christmas." by Jean VanNoppen

Artist Statement: I wanted to make something Christmasy and I really liked the transparency stuff that we learned. So the red is suppose to be holly berries, however by the end of the simulation Christmas looks a little more violent. This is representative of our society because for many people Christmas is the worst time of year (most suicides around the holidays) but for others it is the happiest! Your yearly Christmas experience could dictate how you see the final product- berries or blood.

  1. Really interesting, I'll hope the red dots are berries for most people!

  2. I think I visited yesterday while your whole blog was red. It looked really nice! The image blended in well with the background! They really had the happy holiday feeling.

  3. This image is strangely compelling. Perhaps in part because it's not a traditional tree (more of a plant shape), but it still evokes "Christmas Tree", and the transparent red circles floating over it are (as you note) either festive or chilling...

Overall, perhaps a bit too "iconic" for my taste, but still... Nice work!
