Generative Art: Chapter 1 (day 1)

I was surprised most by the amount of artistic credit that artists (in the reading) give to their various generative machines. This could easily be because I myself have never studied this, but one would expect that human nature would lead humans to take all the credit no matter what their means were.
On the thought of obsolescence that comes up in the end- the author seems to be widely accepting of this perpetual cycle of products being outdated and replaced often within as little as a year. This is slightly unsettling to me and so I think rather than being so accepting of the corporate giants we create by doing this, we should be more concerned with the research fueling them. this obviously is easier said than done and beside the point.
So far in my short introduction to computational art I have found many different ways to create something beyond a simple image as I previously thought. Can't wait to make some art!!

  1. You make a good point about technology. There's also the environmental impact to be considered. Perhaps it would be better if we didn't keep getting better/newer computers every couple of years, and if your current computers were just built to last for decades without need of replacement?
